Grab a Verizon Galaxy Nexus for $50, with a two-year agreement

Grab a Verizon Galaxy Nexus for $50, with a two year agreement

It is common sense that the longer a phone sits on the market, the more the value is depreciated. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a great example of this. Upon release, I remember the phone selling for well over $250 on a two-year contract, and over $600 to purchase the device without any agreement. Luckily the folks over at Verizon Wireless have made a deal to good to refuse. That’s right, some sort of wizardry has changed the price of the Galaxy Nexus, to a low of $50! Of course you need to sign on to a contract to obtain this deal, but if you are willing to go with Verizon no matter what, this seems like the deal for you.

It probably makes sense why Big Red is throwing upgradable customers this type of promotion. Perhaps a new, better, and stronger device is to come in to play on the Verizon network? I would love to hear your comments.

Google makes Jelly Bean factory images available for Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Developers or others who enjoy flashing their phones have a nice new option available if they have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus smartphone. After starting the process of rolling out a Jelly Bean update to Verizon users earlier this week, the factory images are now available on the Google Developers site for download. Listed as version JRO03O, the file can be used to restore a Galaxy Nexus to factory state. Even if you are not inclined to flash your Galaxy Nexus for fun, you can always keep a copy of the image as a fail-safe in case something really bad happens with your phone.

Jelly Bean update starting to roll for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus

It looks like the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is finally getting some Jelly Bean love. Not only has Verizon posted the changelog on their site, but we received a few emails from readers saying they already got the update. The build is JR003O and has a file size of 146.6MB. We actually saw this build last month, but we weren’t sure if it was going to be the final build at that time.

Once the update takes place, you will be able to enjoy Google Now, Google’s new enhanced Voice Search, new Notification panel actions, and a smarter keyboard.

So far it’s not available to me, but I need to check again when I get back to a WiFi connection. To manually check to see if it’s available to you, just go to Settings/About Phone/System Updates. Please let us know if you were able to grab the update in the comments below.

Is the Jelly Bean Update for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Coming Soon?

Aug 29, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Is the Jelly Bean Update for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Coming Soon?

Could the Verizon Galaxy Nexus finally be getting its Jelly Bean update? According to one lucky XDA forum member El Madhatter, who received the OTA notification on his Galaxy Nexus, the update is available as build JRO03O – the newest available Android version to date.

I wouldn’t get too excited just yet, as this guy appears to have a test version of the Galaxy Nexus and he was one of the first to receive the 4.0.4 IMM76Q update. Nonetheless it seems an update will soon be available.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus hasn’t exactly lived up to the true Nexus name thus far, but are you Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners excited? Has Verizon already taken all the fun out of your Nexus? Hit up the comments and let us know how you feel.

New Verizon Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean Binaries Added to AOSP

New Verizon Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean Binaries Added to AOSP

Lets face it, the CDMA Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ are the black sheep in the Nexus family. It’s always looking behind its GSM counterpart and never its equal. Today brings some good news to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus as Google just released the latest Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (JRO03H) binaries for the device merely 3 weeks after it was welcomed back into AOSP.

These binaries should be welcomed by the rooting and developing community as it will now be a lot easier to create fully stable Jelly Bean ROM’s for the Verizon Nexus. Sadly, the other CDMA Nexus (Sprint’s) is still left in the dust and has yet to receive the same treatment from Google.

While most may be irked that these binaries weren’t released at the same time as the GSM’s version was, it’s always better to be late than never, right?

Prelim build of CyanogenMod 10 now available for Galaxy Nexus

Prelim build of CyanogenMod 10 now available for Galaxy Nexus

Late last week, Brint Kriebel, a device maintainer with CyanogenMod, made a preliminary build of CM10 available for Galaxy Nexus phones. Kriebel indicates he has been using the build for a couple weeks now as his daily driver on his Verizon Galaxy Nexus and most hardware functions work properly. It is an AOSP build, so Google apps are not included. Being a preliminary build and not an actual release, bugs are expected and should not be reported. If you are interested in trying out CM10 on your Galaxy Nexus, hit the source link for the file. Just be sure to make your backup before you undertake the install.

Jelly Bean Factory Images Now Available for a Few Nexus Devices Including the Nexus 7

Jelly Bean Factory Images Now Available for a Few Nexus Devices Including the Nexus 7

Have you been messing around a bit to much with the system files on your Jelly Bean powered Nexus device and want to return it back to its factory state? You in luck my friends as Google just released the factory 4.1.1 images for a few of the Nexus units, including the brand new Nexus 7. The devices with available factory images are as follows:

  • Galaxy Nexus (yakju): Android 4.1.1 (JRO03C)
  • Galaxy Nexus (takju): Android 4.1.1 (JRO03C)
  • Nexus S (soju): Android 4.1.1 (JRO03E)
  • Nexus S (sojua): Android 4.1.1 (JRO03E)
  • Nexus 7 (nakasi): Android 4.1.1 (JRO03D)

As you can see, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus has been left of the list, and the Korean and Sprint Nexus S isn’t available either. This just goes to show that if you want to stay up to date with the latest Android OS it pays to go with a GSM kit. If you see your device listed above and want to grab its factory image, hit up the source link below.
