Verizon now offering Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $499

Verizon now offering Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $499

Samsung and Verizon announced today the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be available for $499 through Verizon, fully equipped with LTE. The specs are similar to the WiFi version we’ve already reviewed, but it does come with a little less memory and is likely to be slightly heavier to account for the cellular radios. It packs a dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, and a 7000 mAh battery under the 10.1 inch HD screen.

The $499 is the retail price, as Verizon no longer offers tablet subsidies. Not a bad tablet to add to your Verizon plan, but it’s not going to blow you away, either. Anyone planning on picking up one of these?

Samsung posts open source files for Jelly Bean on Samsung Galaxy Tab devices, AT&T Galaxy Note II

Samsung posts open source files for Jelly Bean on Samsung Galaxy Tab devices, AT&T Galaxy Note II

Via their Open Source Release Center, Samsung has posted new updates to make open source files available for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and AT&T Galaxy Note II devices. The listings indicate these are files for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on these devices. In the case of the Galaxy Tab devices, this is noteworthy as the official Jelly Bean update has not yet been pushed out by Samsung to owners of these devices.

Samsung has previously indicated Jelly Bean would be coming to the Galaxy Tab 2 devices, but no firm dates have been set. The release of these files seems to imply official action is imminent. Sprint is slated to release a 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 this weekend. It does not seem to be much of a stretch of the imagination to conclude Sprint and Samsung would like this latest version of the device to come loaded with Jelly Bean. Making the update available for existing owners of Galaxy Tab devices some time this week would make sense.

If you are interested in grabbing the files for your device and taking a look at what is included, just use one of the source links below.

All smartphones, including LG Optimus G and LG Mach, require activation on one of the Sprint Everything Data plans starting at just $79.99 per month (taxes and fees excluded) with Truly Unlimited data, text and calling to any mobile. Sprint’s Galaxy Note II spotted in FCC database along with 4G LTE 10.1 tablets

Sprint’s Galaxy Note II spotted in FCC database along with 4G LTE 10.1 tablets

Over the weekend we reported on some listings in the FCC database for Samsung Galaxy Note II devices for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Missing from the list were Sprint and U.S. Cellular versions despite a previous announcement that these carriers would also get the device. Potential Sprint buyers of the device can catch a little breath as they continue their wait as filings for the Sprint version have now surfaced at the FCC. Going by model number SPH-L900, the Samsung device includes Sprint compatible radio bands.

In addition to the Sprint version of the Galaxy Note II, two other Samsung devices surfaced, both of them 4G LTE compatible 10.1-inch tablets. The devices have model numbers SPH-P500 and SPH-i915 and are believed to be Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 models for Sprint and Verizon.

Judge Lucy Koh lifts ban on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1

Judge Lucy Koh lifts ban on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1

Judge Lucy Koh has reneged on her previous decision to stop sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US, and has officially lifted the sales injunction on the device. This change of heart has come after a California Court of Appeals found that the tablet did not infringe on any of Apple’s trade dress patents.

As expected, Samsung is thrilled with the decision, saying:

“We are pleased with the court’s action today, which vindicates our position that there was no infringement of Apple’s design patent and that an injunction was not called for.”

Apple’s $2.6 million bond could also potentially be issued to Samsung due to the wrongful accusation. While this decision is certainly good news, Apple should undoubtedly be held responsible for Samsung’s inability to sell its product. Besides, that’s what the bond was posted for in the first place. At this point, though, it’s not even that big of a deal, seeing as the company is already selling its third iteration of the device.

AT&T Android portfolio to grow with new Samsung devices including Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and other devices

AT&T Android portfolio to grow with new Samsung devices including Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and other devices

In a joint announcement issued by AT&T and Samsung, the two shared information on some devices slated to be available “in the coming months” for AT&T’s 4G LTE network. The devices include three smartphones powered by Android and one tablet device.

Headlining the list of forthcoming devices is the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the eagerly awaited for successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note. Unveiled earlier this month, the “phablet” device will sport a 5.5-inch screen and a quad-core Exynos processor to power Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung’s S-Pen apps.

Two other smartphones will be released as well, each targeting different markets. The Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro, designed for those with an active lifestyle, is built to military specifications. The waterproof, shock resistant, dust-proof device will probably appeal to outdoor workers as well. The device will have a 4-inch screen and access to advance push-to-talk services. The other phone is a Samsung Galaxy Express geared toward first time smartphone buyers. The Galaxy Express will have a 4.5-inch screen backed by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and a 2000 mAh battery powering Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Rounding out the joint press release is the impending release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet for the AT&T 4G LTE network.

The specifications for the mid-range devices sound pretty decent and should offer some good choices for buyers not interested in top end devices.
