Motorola Announces The RAZR i MT788 Smartphone For Chinese Markets

You knew it was only a matter of time before the rest of the world got a variant of the uber cool and Intel-powered Motorola RAZR i smartphone. Well the time has come as Motorola proudly announced the RAZR i MT788 that will operate on China Mobile’s wireless network. The RAZR i MT788 is nearly identical to the original RAZR i: it features the same 2GHz Intel chip, has a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 AMOLED display, 8MP camera and a microSD expansion slot. The only major difference is the RAZR i MT788 will only have 4GB of on-board storage, but will have a 1.3MP FFC.

As expected, the device will launch right in the middle of the holiday season. Motorola confirmed the device will be available sometime in mid-December, but did not specify how much the device will cost just yet. You’ll find additional details once your hit the source link.

[Deal] Amazon Wireless has the DROID RAZR HD for $129 and the DROID RAZR MAXX HD for $179

Oct 31, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

[Deal] Amazon Wireless has the DROID RAZR HD for $129 and the DROID RAZR MAXX HD for $179

One of the newest members of Motorola’s RAZR family is on sale for a pretty big discount on Amazon right now. If you’re not already a Verizon customer, you can pick up the RAZR HD for $129 with a two year contract. If you’re already with Big Red, you can still get the device for $149 on a device upgrade. You’re saving money either way, as Verizon is currently asking $199 for the device.

Sound tempting, but you would rather have the bigger battery in the RAZR MAXX HD? Amazon’s got you covered. The 3,300 mAh beast of a phone is also on sale for $179 for new customers ($199 with an upgrade). If you’ve been wanting to try out Verizon service in your area and you like Motorola hardware, this is a tough deal to pass up. Anyone going to be picking up one of these devices before the end of the week?

Android 4.2 could be Key Lime Pie and is a Motorola Nexus and DROID RAZR X one the way?

Oct 24, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Android 4.2 could be Key Lime Pie and is a Motorola Nexus and DROID RAZR X one the way?

We have another leak to throw into the rumor mill. There is no way to tell if this is legit or not, but it sure is interesting. What you are looking at is a Motorola document that specifies Android 4.2.2 as Key Lime Pie and proceeds to show when devices will get the upgrade. As you know, all of them don’t even have Jelly Bean yet. Now the other kicker is the first two devices mentioned: The DROID RAZR X and Motorola Nexus, which show them as being shipped with the said update. Now if a Motorola Nexus does exist, it doesn’t mean we will see it this Monday, it just means that it could come out at a later date. The other thing I find odd is that there is no DROID RAZR i. It’s simply the RAZR i since it’s not on Verizon. Furthermore, no international device names (non Verizon) are mentioned, just DROID devices, which appears fishy. All in all, there is no way to verify the source. I guess this information is somewhat plausible and not completely insane, but we need to caution you that it could really mean nothing. I need more information before I’m buying.

Motorola DROID RAZR M, RAZR i, RAZR HD and Atrix HD all recieve root method

Oct 17, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Motorola DROID RAZR M, RAZR i, RAZR HD and Atrix HD all recieve root method

As with any other Android device, root is eventually achieved. The Motorola DROID RAZR M, RAZR i, RAZR HD and Atrix HD have all received root thanks to XDA user djrbliss. The process that exploits root in these devices is called Motofail2Go and is a virtual one-click root process.

You’ll need a Windows PC, Motorola’s latest USB drivers and the program itself. If you’re brave and willing to give this a shot then head on over to the source link for instructions and more information regarding this rooting process.

DROID RAZR HD unboxing and initial hands on review

DROID RAZR HD unboxing and initial hands on review

The DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD is finally landing on Verizon Wireless tomorrow. It was exactly a year ago that Motorola brought back the RAZR form the dead in the form of the DROID RAZR. It was the thinnest smartphone at the time, and it quickly became one of the hottest phones on the Big Red network. It’s now one year later and time for an upgrade. This latest edition gets a bigger screen with 720p HD resolution, a faster processor, and a bigger battery.

The latest installment sports a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED 720p HD display, a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, 16GB of internal storage, microSD for expanded storage, 2530mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, WiFi, and Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. This HD version is slightly thicker than the original (8.4mm vs 7.1mm) in order to house the bigger battery. It’s probably a good thing because to me, the original DROID RAZR felt too thin plus a bigger battery never hurts.

Will the DROID RAZR HD enjoy the same success with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Optimus G, and HTC One X+? We will do a full review soon, but for now, check out our initial hands on video after the break.

Motorola Adds Global RAZR HD and RAZR i to Bootloader Unlock Program

Motorola Adds Global RAZR HD and RAZR i to Bootloader Unlock Program

In a move which I’m sure will make plenty of devs and flash-happy consumers elated, Motorola has extended their bootloader unlock program to a couple of their newest devices, the Motorola RAZR HD and Motorola RAZR i. The RAZR HD will be un-lockable in the flowing areas: Europe, Australia, South America and on Rogers in Canada. As for the RAZR i, it will be un-lockable “worldwide.”

Of course, the sad part is that consumers in the US can’t fully take advantage of this, but I suppose that’s where we point the finger to the US carriers, right?

Chrome currently not compatible with Motorola RAZR i

Sep 18, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Chrome currently not compatible with Motorola RAZR i

Due to Motorola RAZR i’s Intel Atom CPU, Google’s Chrome browser for the device currently won’t work as you’ll be given the “Package file is invalid” prompt upon installation. I suppose that’s to be expected when Motorola brings in a new CPU into the game with the Intel Atom. So far, here’s what Motorola had to say regarding the issue:

There is not a version available that is optimised for Intel. We expect it at in-store launch or shortly thereafter.

I would fully expect an update to Chrome in the near future to fix the incompatibility issue. For now the RAZR i’s stock browser will have to do for you Chrome fans. Once the update is pushed we’ll be sure to let you all know!

Motorola and Intel unveil the RAZR i with Intel Inside and edge to edge 4.3-inch display

Sep 18, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Motorola and Intel unveil the RAZR i with Intel Inside and edge to edge 4.3 inch display

The new partnership between Motorola and Intel has officially begun. Motorola and Intel unveiled the RAZR i this morning in London. As we reported earlier, it’s essentially the DROID RAZR M, but with one major difference. The i signifies Intel Inside and it sports Intel’s latest 2GHz processor. What will this 2GHz chip give us? Obviously speed is going to be the main selling point and Motorola is touting that the camera will now load in less than one second and there’s a new burst shooting mode that yields 10 shots in less than one second. It’s also about battery life. The RAZR i sports the same 2000mAh battery that’s in the DROID RAZR M, but it will be more efficient. They are claiming that it will be “40 percent more powerful than the competition.” What is that competition? According to the press release it’s the iPhone 4S, which isn’t saying much, but I’m very pleased with the performance of the DROID RAZR M.

The rest of the specs are the same with the 4.3-inch edge to edge qHD (960 x 540) display, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 8GB of storage, GPS, NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Just like the DROID RAZR M, the DROID i is upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Notable quotes:

Jim Wicks, senior vice president, Consumer Experience Design, Motorola Mobility:

“Together with Intel, we’re redefining what people can expect from a mobile device. A camera that launches in an instant, Web pages that load blazingly fast and a device that’s the perfect balance of screen size and fit in hand. RAZR i delivers just that when you put an Intel-fast processor in a beautifully designed phone and add in extra long battery life.”

Erik Reid, general manager, Intel’s Mobile and Communications Group:

“Motorola RAZR i with Intel Inside naturally blends together the value propositions of high performance Intel Architecture and great battery life, Motorola Mobility device innovation and the Android™ platform. Intel’s goal is to provide compelling technology options that translate into great user benefits and experiences. RAZR i is a great proofpoint in the collaboration and we’re thrilled to be working with Motorola to bring this edge-to-edge experience enhanced with Intel Inside to people around the world.”

We can expect to see the RAZR i in the UK, France, Germany and Brazil. So far nothing was mentioned for North America. As far as dates for all these areas, we aren’t sure yet, but we do know that Clove in the UK will have it on October 1st for a SIM-free price of £342 ($555).
