AT&T Optimus G available Nov. 2 for $199, pre orders start tomorrow

LG’s hottest and newest flagship device in the LG Optimus G will be available on AT&T starting November 2nd with pre-orders starting tomorrow. Here’s a small list on what you can expect with this device:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 True HD IPS Display (with Zerogap Touch)
  • 1.5-GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
  • 2,100mAh battery
  • 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0

While LG doesn’t exactly have the best track record with its customers, the Optimus G will definitely be a device to be reckoned with. Preliminary reviews of the device are showing great things, especially when it comes to its IPS display.

Anyone out there willing to give LG another shot with the Optimus G?

LG releases Jelly Bean update schedule for some devices

LG releases Jelly Bean update schedule for some devices

LG’s Korean site released information today regarding their plans to roll out Jelly Bean updates to some of their devices. It appears the first device to get the official update will be the LG Optimus LTE II starting some time in November. Translating the Korean page is a bit of challenge, but it appears a Jelly Bean update for the LG Optimus G will be pushed out in December. As 2013 opens, LG indicates both the LG Optimus Vu and LG Optimus Vu II will get Jelly Bean updates during the first quarter.

According to Jong-Seok Park, LG’s Vice President of the Electronics Mobile Communications division, the updates will include both Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and some of LG’s own apps and UI modifications. Among the changes that are touted are increased touch screen response speed and enhanced “Q” apps. The changes are expected to create a user experience that is similar to what users get with a Jelly Bean device out of the box.

LG does not indicate whether the time frames and devices listed apply to markets outside Korea.

32GB version of the Nexus 7 could launch this week

32GB version of the Nexus 7 could launch this week

There’s no question that Google and ASUS have a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 primed and ready to go, but when will it launch? Well earlier rumors suggested October 24, which is next week, but it’s possible it could launch as early as this week. UK tech site ITProPortal says it will appear in the Christmas gift guide for UK retailer Argos. The gift guide will launch this week.

Earlier rumors suggested that the 32GB version will replace the current 16GB version, and they have confirmed that as well. They also noted that the 16GB version is no longer at Richersounds as they’re probably prepping the 32GB launch. As to pricing, you can expect this new version to be priced the same as the 16GB version, which is  £199 ($320) and the 8GB version will remain at £159 ($255).

I would caution you that just because a holiday gift guide is launching this week, it doesn’t mean that it will actually be available this week. I won’t make any predictions there, but I do think it will be available by the end of the month or officially announced when Google and LG announce the Nexus 4. That’s rumored to happen on October 29. Also, don’t forget a 3G version is looming.

If you’re reading between the lines, all of this means that you should hold off any purchases for just a couple of weeks.

Newest image EXIF data outs LG’s E960 smartphone as the Nexus 4

Newest image EXIF data outs LG’s E960 smartphone as the Nexus 4

Last week we came across a plethora of images taken with LG’s E960 smartphone, though we were unsure as to what exactly the official name would be. Well, new EXIF data from Picasa has revealed the ubiquitous Nexus 4 moniker once again, adding to our growing suspicion. And, with a full review of the device already having been published, this name seems all but official.

As with any EXIF data, it’s completely possible that it could have been faked. Although, with all signs pointing to an LG-manufactured Nexus, we have no reason to doubt its authenticity.

LG Releases Unusual 4-Minute Product Video Highlighting Optimus G Features, Gives Viewers A Martial Arts Show In The Process

LG Releases Unusual 4 Minute Product Video Highlighting Optimus G Features, Gives Viewers A Martial Arts Show In The Process

The LG Optimus G smartphone is no doubt going to be the single device that will turn the LG brand around and give it some much-needed credibility among Android fans. With that in mind, in order for LG to show off its new superphone to the world, it has to develop a unique advertising campaign— and let’s just say that LG has successfully gotten this started by releasing an ummm… “unique” video highlighting the device’s features. In the product movie below, you will find a spokesmodel using some fancy hand gestures and moves as part of the simulation of the Optimus G’s features. You’ll see everything from the slimness of the device to the wonderful graphics to the impressive Q Slide function– which allows for simultaneous video watching and texting á la Samsung. Whether it’s better implemented than Sammy’s multitasking feature remains to be seen, though it’s nice to see other manufacturers incorporating this into their products as well.

All in all, the video does succeed in creating additional buzz of the Optimus G smartphone– albeit in an incredibly bizarre and unusual way. You can check out the full video below.

Camera samples from LG’s Nexus smartphone leak

Camera samples from LG’s Nexus smartphone leak

After yesterday’s leaked images of LG’s Nexus smartphone, camera samples from the device have made their way to the internet. A slew of photos have hit Google’s Picasa web albums, each designated to have come from the same LG device, codenamed Mako. It appears that both users who uploaded photos are employees of LG Korea, though this hasn’t been confirmed.

Most of the images are 3264×2448 in size which leads us to believe the camera utilizes an 8-megapixel sensor. So, unless the users changed the image size within the camera settings, it seems as though the next Nexus device will sport an 8MP camera. There’s always the possibility that the EXIF data could have been faked, but it seems unlikely. We’ve embedded the full set of images after the break. Be sure to take a look and let us know what you think.

LG Optimus Nexus appears in set of leaked photos

Oct 8, 2012   //   by RobertMiller   //   Blog  //  No Comments

LG Optimus Nexus appears in set of leaked photos

After weeks of countless rumors, the LG Optimus Nexus has purportedly been spotted in the wild. A set of leaked images show off a black slab styled smartphone, similar to LG’s Optimus G, though the device in question appears to be running atop stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

The device has been given the moniker “Mako”, which lines up nicely with the aquatic codenames of past Nexus devices. Despite the bump in the Android version, the smartphone’s homescreen, icons and status bar remain nearly identical to what we’ve grown accustomed to in Android 4.1.

On the exterior, however, several tweaks have been made to the physical body of the device, compared to the original LG Optimus G. Most notably, the rear camera and flash have been repositioned, hinting at the fact that there could very well be different internals inside.

Given that the LG E960 has already passed the stringent guidelines of the FCC, this may very well be the device that has been making headlines over the past few weeks. In terms of hardware, details remain scarce. However, you can browse the entire set of photos after the break.
