The Sony Nexus X was an elaborate 7-hour hoax

We had previously heard rumors of multiple Nexus devices arriving in time for the holidays. After having seen alleged Nexus-branded smartphones from LG and Sony, our hopes had grown tremendously. The only thing though, is that the Sony Nexus X we saw last week has turned out to be a fake, effectively dismissing any faith we may have had.
Apparently, the actual process of creating the fake images wasn’t as simple as photoshopping a couple of images. Instead, the Nexus X was conceived using incredibly powerful 3D modeling tools which allowed the individual behind the hoax to stitch together pieces of previous Sony and Nexus handset designs.

The base of the phony phone (see what I did there) was fabricated with the industrial design of both the Galaxy Nexus and Xperia T. The two were combined using a 3D construction model and then the end result was placed onto a virtual background. The reflection of a Galaxy Nexus was then added to portray a self-taken image.

The reasoning behind the man-made creation is said to have stemmed from the idea of generating consumer interest about a potential Nexus phone made by Sony. The person behind the hoax says the entire process took around seven hours to complete. Google rolls out Android 4.1.2 OTA update for Google Play Galaxy Nexus devices
More good news for owners of Galaxy Nexus smartphones. Those who purchased their devices through the Google Play store or who have flashed the “takju” version of the firmware onto their device should be receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update to bring their device up to Android version 4.1.2. The update mirrors the version that rolled out a couple days ago for Galaxy Nexus devices purchased from sources other than Google Play. Like the earlier variant, it appears this is a minor update that primarily provides some performance enhancements “under the hood” as opposed to new features for users.
If you haven’t been notified yet of the update’s availability for your device, you might want to check in your settings.

Android 4.1.2 update now rolling out to GSM Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S handsets

While the update to Android 4.1.2 may have arrived for Nexus 7 owners last week, the new software is now making its way to specific Nexus handsets. The latest iteration in Jelly Bean is currently rolling out to select GSM Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S smartphones. Users are reporting that only “yakju” variants of the Galaxy Nexus are currently seeing the update, though it’s expected that the “takju” model (the one officially sold through the Google Play Store) will be getting in on the action over the next couple of days.
As expected, version 4.1.2 is a minor update for phones. Other than a slight performance increase, no incredibly significant changes are noticeable. Despite the Nexus 7′s update having unleashed landscape mode, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S users will continue to be limited to portrait, sans any custom launcher.
If you simply can’t wait for the update to hit your device, you can always head to the source link below to flash the OTA manually.

[Real or Fake] Is this the Sony Nexus X?
Here’s something interesting for your Monday morning. Images of a Nexus X showed up on Picasa. No other information was specified, but in looking at the EXIF data, the pics were taken with a Galaxy Nexus. That in itself tells us nothing and there is no reason to know if these are fake or not. We did hear rumblings about a possible Xperia Nexus in August, but nothing else since. I think Xperia Nexus sounds more likely than Nexus X, but I’m not in charge. I guess time will tell, but I’m not making any bets on this one until I see further confirmation. One more pic after the break.

Full review of the LG Nexus 4 appears on online
The same guys that have been leaking images of the LG Nexus just posted a full review. Now they don’t have a finished product as they do call it a “prototype”, but they still offer further insight on the device and make a lot of comparisons to the Galaxy Nexus. The LG Nexus comes in at 9.2mm thick (0.30 thicker than the GNex) and weighs 139 grams. It’s 1.5mm shorter than the Galaxy Nexus, but it’s 1.3mm wider.
There are no contacts for wireless devices. They mention the back being smooth and glossy with the possibility that it’s scratch resistant glass. They couldn’t scratch it with a key.The mosaic image we have seen in the images is there, but it’s underneath this scratch resistant glass. The sides sport a matte black rubberized plastic, and the front has glossy plastic. As far as design, the last item mentioned was the fact that the battery is non removable.
The display is 4.7-inches, is IPS, and it looks amazing. As far as the 8MP camera goes, they didn’t get to much into it, but they did post a good number of pictures taken from the device for you to judge yourself. It does have the quad-code Snapdragon S4 (APQ8064) and 2GB of RAM, but benchmark tests weren’t all that great. They think the reason is the fact that it’s not a finished product.
The prototype they have was only running Android 4.1.2, so nothing could be offered on the supposed Android 4.2 update. Since this is a prototype, there is a lot of bugs so obviously it’s not ready for primetime, which is expected. There’s a lot more information and images in the review so hit the source link to check it out.

Motorola All Set To Start Up Another “Secret” Soak Test Today For Xoom Wifi Tablet, Android 4.1.2 Incoming?
Google’s other “Nexus” tablet is all set to get yet another lease on life. Participants of the Motorola Feedback Network just got the heads up of an imminent update that is going to be pushed to the still-popular Xoom Wifi tablet sometime today:

To ensure we hear you, please follow these guidelines:

All in all, this looks like the clear signal that the latest Android OS is likely going to be pushed to the device— keeping pace with other developer devices like the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Even though this particular update is not “expected to make large and obvious changes to your Xoom”, any update is always welcome for us Android folk. If you’re a participant of the MFN and own a Xoom Wifi, keep yourself on the lookout for the update which can be pushed out at any time. Oh and when you do see the update, do tell us how if you see any noticeable differences on your device.
For the rest of you U.S. Xoom Wifi owners— if all goes well, expect to see the update being pushed out within the next few weeks.
Cheers John!
Upcoming Gmail Version 4.2 (Finally) Allows For Pinch To Zoom Feature In Emails
Google’s Gmail for Android app has seemingly reached the next step in its inevitable evolution. Our friends at Android Police report the upcoming Gmail version 4.2 will achieve some much-needed features, with the long awaited pinch-to-zoom making its first appearance in the app. As seen in the video below, when users open up an email and scroll down to the displayed content on the screen, they are able to completely pinch inwards in order zoom in and see the content in greater detail. Also from the looks of it, it appears that this upcoming Gmail feature will not just be limited to the newest Android software either, as the video was taken with the Gmail 4.2 app running on a Jelly Bean-flavored Galaxy Nexus.
There’s a couple of additional noteworthy items to highlight as well in the newest iteration of the Gmail app. One major note is the ability to actually swipe to delete or if you desire, archive your emails from the email list. According to Android Police, Gmail has this feature developed to be very flexible for users. For starters, users can go through options that will let you change your swipes to “No effect”, “Archive or delete” or “Always Delete”. The “Archive or delete” option is the default option, which will archive swiped messages when you’re in the inbox, delete swiped messages when you’re in All Mail or Sent and remove a label when you’re in a label-only view. The last feature is for users to be able to report a specific email or message or phishing, which effectively gives users one less thing to worry about when it comes to those pesky spammers and all. Huzzah!
Unfortunately, the .apk can not be shared with the masses at this time. However, the hope is that we will be able to grab a leak as soon as possible… or Google just goes ahead and releases the update for the rest of the world to see. Hit the break to see additional photos and video of this in action.
