32GB Nexus 7 could spell doom for the16GB model
As previously reported, we all know a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 is coming, but now there seems to be a new twist; the 16GB model could be phased out. If this information holds true, the new model will still have a $249.99 MSRP just like its 16GB brother, but sport twice the internal storage. Maybe Google is taking input on how wildly successful the 16GB version was at launch, and giving new customers a reason to spend the extra $50 instead of aiming for one of Amazon’s latest Fire series tablets. From this recent information I would advise any of you who are looking for a new tablet to hold off for a few more weeks to see what Google and ASUS have in store.
This newest rumor would make sense as to why a Japanese customer received a 32GB version in the mail after ordering a 16GB version, as well as lend some truth to a few whispers of potentially removing the $199.99 8GB version from stores as well. For now, we’ll have to keep our ears to the ground and wait the next piece of information to leak or something gets officially announced.

GFC approves ASUS Padfone 2 with LTE
ASUS fans have been eagerly awaiting October 16th to roll around as ASUS is scheduled to unveil the new Padfone 2 device. Originally thought to be on target for a 2013 release, the “Save the Date” announcement from ASUS was a pleasant surprise for those hoping the Padfone 2 will live up to the hype left by the original version. We have already seen the new device will have a quad-core processor based on AnTuTu benchmark scores. A leaked photo thought to be the device seemed to reveal some additional specs.
At least one of those specs, LTE capability, appears to be confirmed after the Padfone 2 showed up on the Global Certification Forum web site. U.S. buyers will be disappointed as the LTE bands listed correspond to Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Good news for consumers is those areas, although a U.S. LTE version is probably close behind.

ASUS releases official Jelly Bean ROMs for Transformer Prime and Infinity
When the Transformer Prime launched, it was the first tablet to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and now it’s one of the first devices to receive Jelly Bean along with the Transformer Pad Infinity.
If you are one of the many folks who regularly modify your device with ROM’s and tweaks by unlocking the bootloader, you probably noticed that you did not receive the OTA update. However, ASUS brings good news as the company released the full official Jelly Bean ROMs on the their website.
This means that all you will have to do is download the file, place it on your device’s storage, and then flash the .zip. It’s the same process that you would perform with any other ROM. They are offering both “worldwide and US exclusive” downloads, so make sure you select the right software to install.

ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity Jelly Bean update delayed, should arrive ‘early next week’

Owners of the ASUS Transformer Prime are already enjoying the sweet taste of Jelly Bean, but a new development has caused the update for the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity to be delayed. In a forum post on XDA-Developers, ASUS Technical Marketing Manager Gary Key explained that the company had run into a few technical problems with the keyboard when accessing the recently updated Facebook application.
“For those users in the US and Canada, the 10.4.4.16 Release should be available early next week. A couple of applications that were recently updated (Facebook 1.9.10 on 9/20 as one example) required a last minute firmware update for the keyboard to operate correctly in the “Comment” area with Android 4.1. Sorry about the slight delay but this fix needed to be implemented before release.”
As usual, ASUS has provided its user base with insight, complete with a legitimate reason and a new time frame. So, while we may have to wait a few extra days, at least we know the company will be rolling out fully-functioning firmware.

ASUS and Google could be prepping a modified version of the Nexus 7 priced at $99
DigiTimes is at it again. I do have to say that that they are right some of the time so this is worth throwing into the rumor mill. They claim that ASUS and Google are working on improving the Nexus 7, and by the end of the year they will release two refreshed versions. They will both be thinner, but the most interesting part of it is the fact that one of the models will cost just $99. At this point ASUS has denied the report so we really need to take this with a grain of salt.
They didn’t offer any other information other than these tabs will use TN panels made by HannStar Display. I guess none of this is shocking, but I will be a little surprised if it comes true. With Amazon dropping their basic Kindle Fire to $159 and the impending iPad Mini, Google wants to keep the momentum going. I’m not sure two newer versions of the Nexus 7 is all that great of any idea though. To me, it makes more sense to come out with the one cheaper version and then maybe a Nexus 10 priced at $299. I guess we will all just have to stay tuned and wait for the next piece of information to leak.

ASUS confirms Jelly Bean for Transformer Prime and Transformer Pad Infinity coming soon

ASUS began rolling out an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Transformer Prime in Sweden yesterday, and today the company has followed with a statement regarding the rest of the world. Announced via the company’s official Facebook page, ASUS says global users can expect an update to the latest version “soon”. In addition to the Transformer Prime (TF201), the Transformer Infinity Pad (TF700) will also be getting in on the upgrade action. While an exact time frame wasn’t given, ASUS tends to make this type of announcement the same week–or even days before—it plans to roll out an update.

ASUS has undoubtedly been one of the quickest manufacturers in terms of rolling out updated software. Perhaps the jump to Android 4.1 may have taken a little longer than some may have hoped, but it’s better late than never, they say.
